The William N. Pennington Student Achievement Center project at the University of Nevada Reno stands as a testament to architectural innovation and student-focused design. Spanning three stories and encompassing 77,345 square feet, this new student services building was meticulously crafted to serve as a dynamic hub for academic support and innovation on the Reno Campus. Constructed with a structural steel frame atop a spread and beam concrete foundation, the building boasts a striking exterior featuring a combination of masonry and glass curtain walls, along with a durable metal, single-ply roof. Notably, the project involved the demolition of the university's library, integrating original granite materials from the library into the new student services building, preserving a sense of institutional heritage
The center maximizes natural light through strategic window placement, fostering a vibrant and inspiring atmosphere. This thoughtful approach prioritizes functionality, innovation, and student well-being, making the Pennington Center a beacon of architectural excellence.
Project Highlights:
Complex Overhead Systems: With over thirty-five percent of the building's value invested in mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire systems, proper coordination and scheduling of these systems were crucial.
Seamless Integration: CORE expertly coordinated the complex overhead systems on each floor, ensuring proper servicing of over 40 laboratories and a state-of-the-art ISO 5 Class 100 Cleanroom.
Construction Excellence: Constructed on a concrete foundation with spread footings and a conventional structural steel frame, the building's architecture seamlessly integrates with its surroundings, reflecting construction excellence.
Recognition: Awarded the prestigious 2020 Associated General Contractors PINNACLE Award, the Pennington Engineering Building stands as a testament to architectural ingenuity and construction leadership.
